WITH THE REBUILDING OF THE JUCHITAN LOCAL MARKET WE HAVE BENEFITED 943 TENANTS AND OVER 35,000 PEOPLE THAT VISIT THE MARKET EVERYDAY

After an earthquake on September of 2017, Televisa Foundation as well as other foundations and NGO partners joined efforts to preserve the economical center of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec: The “5 de Septiembre” Local Market in Juchitan, Oaxaca.

With this Project, we managed to reactivate the local economy benefiting 943 small traders and over 35,000 people.

At the beginning of 2018 the first stone was placed to start the rebuilding of the local market and to sign off and handover of the new construction in April 2019.

Reconstruction comprehended 6,027 square meters, from the foundations to garnish and functional elements made of traditional brickwork in order to keep the style of the traditional buildings of the city.

The total cost of the reconstruction was $35,426,453.75 MXN granted by Televisa Foundation, Gentera Foundation, Citibanamex Social Commitment and Coca-Cola Foundation

This way, 172,880 bricks were given for the reconsruction with a facade with more than 120 meters lenght.

The facade is made of latticework, a material that contributes to preserve traditional architectural standards, allowing an optimum illumination and ventilation to the market. In no time the building became a piece of a new urban symbol.

This project brought life and work sources back to Juchitan, and also cheered up the people despite natural adversities.
